St. Vincent's College Alumna Makes Provisions for School in Her Will
Virginia "Ginny" Day, who graduated from St. Vincent's College (SVC) of Nursing in 1964, is leaving a bequest to the school in her will. SVC became part of Sacred Heart University in July 2018.
Virginia continued her time at St. Vincent's as a nursing instructor from 1970-74 and became a member of the college's board of visitors in 2020. Gratitude and a desire to give back moved Virginia to arrange for the legacy gift. "I owe my whole professional life to St. Vincent's," says Virginia. "Those three years opened enormous doors for me." Day also expressed her appreciation for the life-long friendships she developed and maintains with the class of 1964.
After earning her diploma from St. Vincent's, she went on to obtain her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Boston College in 1970. She then pursued three master of science degrees: one in nursing from Case Western Reserve University in 1979, another in divinity from Union Theological Seminary in 1996 and a third in theology from Boston College in 2011.
"Because St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing was a Catholic hospital, the Daughters of Charity (the hospital sponsors) had a tremendous influence on how we approached patient care," Virginia says. "We were seeing God in those patients." She carries that level of care and compassion with her patients to this day in her work as chaplain and spiritual director.
